It’s that time of year again, Metro Detroiters: time to be scared out of your wits! Those who love horror movies (me) are fond of October, because it’s when we can experience these flicks firsthand via haunted houses.
There are plenty of haunted attractions in southeast Michigan, each one scarier than the next. Take a look:
Terrorfied Forest of Pinckney has two attractions, including an outdoor forest and indoor Bubbles Fun House. The forest itself spans 30 acres and your 40-minute trek will leave your heart beating faster, to say the least. Look out for Bubbles the clown!
Open through the end of October, Terrorfied Forest will also be open on Friday, Nov. 13.

Blake’s Haunted Big Apple, located in Armada, features four different Halloween attractions: Zombie Paintball Safari, Spooky Land 3D Maze, 3-Story Haunted Barn and Haunted Hayride. You can take your pick individually or experience all four for under $50!
Enjoy outdoor movies and bonfires held each night, as well as a live DJ on weekends.
Night Terrors is presented by Wiard’s Orchard of Ypsilanti, where 115 monsters and six haunted attractions await. Check out Splattertown Paintball, The Ultimate Haunted Barn, The Asylum, Alien Caged Clowns, The Mined Shaft and Hayride of the Lost.
Situated on 89 acres, there’s plenty of room for scares here. Single attraction tickets are available, or you can choose packages with multiple haunts.
Erebus Haunted Attraction in Pontiac is perhaps one of Metro Detroit’s best-known haunted houses. With four stories of terror (three above ground and one underground), it’s no wonder Erebus has been featured on the Travel Channel and continually receives rave reviews.
Even if you’ve been before, each year promises a different show with new frights and terror around each corner.
The Fear Factory, located in Mount Clemens, is housed in a 25,000 square foot factory where you’ll experience 30 excruciating minutes of horror. Here’s some incentive to keep your eyes open, though: if you locate the secret door, you’ll get three times your money back!
Grab your friends and get ready for a night of scary fun. It’s all pretend, right?
